MathCounts
MathCounts is a competitive math program, culminating in a competition against other students from schools all over the state, region and country.
Our homeschool group is dedicated to embracing the ideals of MathCounts. We field at least one team each year, and send individuals to compete on the middle and high school levels. Children as young as 4th grade can participate, and students only go to competition (assuming they qualify) if they want to.
There is plenty to be gained, even if a child doesn't make it to competition. Learning to work collaboratively on math problems, gaining techniques to allow for faster calculations, being around other children who love math, or who just want to learn to think about math as more than just pages of problems from a book - all of this awaits the math club student!
